Hey good to know that worked out for you guys - don't know what's up with Vista - and glad you enjoyed it Lunchbox
you don't know what's up with vista? It's a microsoft product still in it's "early relase" state....like all microsoft products it's buggy as hell until they can find all the mistakes made. It's just part of microsoft's development cycle.
I run vista on my main PC and XP on my laptop...after using it I can say that vista is like a super model....it's very pretty....but has some deep issues.

haha, i know what's actually up with Vista as a whole - i just meant that i didn't expect it to not be able to load a file in IE7 with a space (%20) in the file name.
I run XP on all my machines that are not running Linux - not going anywhere near Vista anytime soon.

I'm NEVER converting to Vista, the next version of Windows... Windows 7 is slated for release next summer. Vista reminds me of Windows ME.... I'll jump from XP to Win7

I'm running vista solely for direct X 10...even if I can get more frames per second out of Direct X 9 and XP with my hardware...I'm going to be pacient and wait for the software to catch up...and my frame per second rate is more than I ever needed already....
What flavor of Linux...I've always been partial to fedora (never forget your first linux build used...) ubuntu is nice though...but slackware has a nice nerdiness to it. I majored in computer science, and am currently employeed as a programmer analyist....does it show?

Alright I moved the last couple of posts out of the volumizer thread and into their own thread
I'm with Squirlly - I have no plans to install Vista and I'll just wait for Windows 7.
I run ubuntu on desktops, CentOS for servers - first build was slackware many years ago, boy was that obtuse - but then I discovered the joy that was Redhat 5.0 and never looked back haha. I do like the RH/Fedora/RHEL/CentOS camp but I figured I'd try something new and I tried FreeBSD recently and it felt like I was learning the *nix operating system all over again :D

unfortunately I got my Vista with my new computers. Really the only thing I like about it is the sidebar.

Yeah that's the only downside to preinstalled OSes..

I rushed out to buy my wifes laptop after Vista came out and everyone was griping I got one of the "last" XP models in the store... that was till Microsoft started shipping XP again..... I have a desktop at my feet for my sons room I bought becasue it came pre-loaded with XP... He can have it when he cleans his room... I wonder if I'll plug it in before it's obsolete!

Ok I'm PS3 illiterate, so you can run PC programs on a PS3? Is it like a PC lite so in theroy you only need a PS3 run Call of Duty 4 and do your Word Processing or Spreadsheets?

I'm really missing linux again, I kinda want to reinstall a linux build on my laptop and do a dual boot so I can keep what is functional in XP without tweaking it.
But that might not happen for a while some friends finally conn-ed me into playing wow after 3 years of they nagging me about it I finally just did it so they would stop asking. I can see why it's addicting...but it has only consumed my already existing computer game time....so I'm not a lost cause. But I don't really feel like digging out a good linux build yet....still thinking when I do it again the new fedora build (last feroda I had was fedore core 4, the system it was on couldn't support the newer ones) or ubuntu...they just released the newest build out of beta a few months ago right?

-TimWhat you have to do is repartition the existing drive drive (or install a larger drive), giving 10MB to an "alternate" operating system (Linux) and then install that OS. So yes you can run word processing or spreadsheet software using OpenOffice under Linux but you can't install Windows or run Microsoft Office on the PS3.
and B-Pow you should definitely build yourself a Linux workstation. Ubuntu is great and yes a new version (its 8.04) was released in April

Part of me wants to really go off the deep end and install slackware or something else that really takes a lot of linux/unix knowlage.
I just really miss my terminal window...I lived in that thing in college since vi came with all the "color packs" for the diffrent programming languages I used...and it had a compiler for all of them...pre installed in fedora core 4 (and probably in the ubuntu builds as well). I had that thing looking the way I wanted and behaving within resonable limits....it was heavily outdated hardware (P2 or P3 550, 192mb ram, 5gb hd)...that box is still around somewhere.

We had a P3 550 at the office with 256MB ram running Redhat for years as a server. Just decomissioned it recently. Linux doesn't take much horsepower especially if you're not using X
If you want to go off the deep end, go for FreeBSD :D
