Im planning on having my dad buy the kit and then making my own. Anybody done this? Any ideas?

Depends on what kit - if you get the cheapest "Mr Beer" kind you should start collecting as many plastic soda bottles (the kind with the screw cap) as you can find. Probably like the 20oz ones. You'll need them to fill up from the keg you make your beer in. I have one (mr beer kit) and that's my only problem - I don't drink soda so its been sitting since last Xmas :) - i just end up buying the beer and never make my own.

My brother makes his own batches several times a year. He even bottles it and at one point had labels made on his computer with some rather...inventive names. It's fun but takes some time to pull off well.

it'll take some experimenting, and trial and error until you get it right...

I think I'm gonna use my little college size fridge to keep 2 liters in for the whole bottling idea.

I found some plans on the internet to make it. Plus, if I make it then I can drink it and smuggle a bottle for when me and about 3 trucks go offroading(the whole after its done, and your over at the one friends house just hanging out, not while mudding).

Give me a first goal. Light Beer, A dark beer, etc?

Dark beer. I've always been a fan of lagers.

personal preference more than anything.

I think that your goal for the first batch should be that it's drinkable, other than that, it depends on what type of beer you prefer.

lame. I'm planning on buying the 2 liters in the next couple days after work. should 3 or 4 be enough?

Hmm.....i think so if you make a profit, but if you sell it at a price to break even it may not be. Then again I really dont know.

i'm pretty sure you need a liquor license to sell any kind of alcohol

My dad makes multiple batches of beer and wine at a time. we have I think 20 gallons of wine upstairs aging in the buckets, and around the same amount in beer. I think he has like 5 or 6 half kegs that are usually full.

bringing back an old thread but if anyone cares I've had a pale ale fermenting for about a week now. Should be ready for bottling in the next couple of days...

big_daddy_d

using the plain old mr beer kit. The kids got it for me for fathers day, along with a nice bottle of tequila. Don't know if they are trying to tell me they like me more when I'm drunk lol...
