This is my 1987 Ford F-150 4x4 with Dual Gas Tanks and a 8 foot bed. This Urban Assult Vehicle weighs 7000lbs and I only paid $4000 for it with the Cap and Running boards on it at a dealership becase it's a stick shift and they couldn't sell it to anyone else in the Central Ohio area. I'm glad the art of driving a stick is a dying art becase I got a great truck CHEAP.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/squirllyoh/kittime.jpg

This VW was killed in a crash but I have a '74 Bug but I'm planing on selling it.

I also have a "beater" F-150 that is an extended cab 2wd with a short bed but it's much better on gas than the Urban Assalt Vehicle above so I drive it 3 or 4 times a week to work and only drive the Urban Assalt Vehicle 1 or 2 times a week to work and weekend trips.

well, i got some new shoes today!

woke up to find this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/DFSniper/My%20Car/SANY0030.jpg

so i threw on the spare, skipped class, and drove to the tire store and bought some Firehawk GTs. they said it would take 2 hours for the tires and an alignment, but 4 hours and $550 later, they were finally done. oh well, at least the new tires made it easier to haul *** to work! and tomorrow my dad and i are replacing the brakes. the also told me i need new tie rods, struts, fan & alt belts, and a valve cover gasket (i thought i smelled something funny, but havent gotten around to checking it out). will probably take care of most of that tomorrow too.

love those imprezas. my favorite body styles are the '01s and '05s.

My personal opinion about cars is this....

there are mechanics who are extremely talented in what they do. I am not mechanically inclined with cars AT ALL. To prevent me from screwing my car up and causing the mechanics to go broke, I bring my car in for EVERYTHING, even including oil changes.

I don't think that I need to learn to do any of it either because in EVERY city there is a lexus dealer if it's a decent size town....

That trike ain't no cruiser... the guy's on solo's in the club struggle to keep up through the lanes, and on current gearing it tops out at 120mph. It's caught a few out when they follow me into a tight bend, expecting me to brake but I don't. A few people I've given pillion's to described it as a 3 wheel go kart. Pulls neat wheelies as well ;)

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w169/GeeTee_album/chris-gets-it-up.jpg

I expected to get lynched by members (UK monster owners) at our annual rally, but in fact the trike won bike of the year in 2005, best mechanical mod in 2006, and best paint in both 2007/2008

Got it fully loaded in Sept for a steal. It's certainly a hell of a lot easier to get gear into than the IS ever was and ironically it gets the same gas milage in the city and on the highway as the IS ever did.

Won't flame you too much, but it really depends on the magazine and the video game. There is a wealth of knowledge in the appropriate publications and on the appropriate websites. Unfortunately there is also a lot of bad info floating around out there and it takes a lot to sort through the bullisht. These days I find myself reading import/tuner magazines for the comedy they provide. They do it for the money and will tend to use and promote the products for the manufacturers who pay them (quality product or not).

Until you get out there and start wrenching on cars its hard to know what is true and what is not.

We'll just leave video games alone :P

Thankfully I am mechanically inclined and am able to do all the maintenance on my car. I suppose it comes from being an automotive engineer and not wanting to pay for excessive labor costs. I'm around cars and parts all day. I'd feel bad if I couldn't do any service work on my car. It also helps that I have a vehicle lift at work that I'm allowed to use after-hours to work on my car.

damn, an '02 with 150K miles? my '01 only has 125K on it!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who drives a lot...105k on my '05 :(

when i do read mags, its usually import tuner, car and driver, or road & track. as for the video games, its mainly the newer need for speed and all the gran turismos. i have to say, the original GT helped me understand a lot about camber, toe, and a lot of small details.

picking up my struts and tie rods tomorrow, and will try and install them this weekend. we need to rent a coil spring compressor too if auto crafts shop here on post doesnt have one.

I've got a 2001 4-door Saturn S(something or other, don't care) 94K miles on that beast

Then I've got my baby, 2007 Kawasaki Nijna 650R (EX650R). Made some confort and durability modifications to it, woodcraft framesliders, zero gravity double bubble, and new bars from a custom shop to give it a more sport bike posture and weight balance. I need pictures after I did that stuff...get them later. I still need a fender eliminator and to integrate the rear signals into the break light.

NFS upsets me with their setup options. Aside from picking stickier tires and changing the power curve you can't make a lot of useful changes (I haven't played ProStreet though). GT4 is pretty good, but I haven't played with GT5/HD to see if its better. They did a decent job with the idea of camber and toe, but their concept of swaybars seems to be backward. If you've never played it, I'd recommend GTR-2 for PC. Fantastic FIA racing game that pays a lot more attention to car setup and has more realistic physics. I'm also pretty impressed with Forza2 and the things you can do to setup the cars. But I race cars for a hobby and I'm a suspension nut, so I pay too much attention to things like that.

If your car has coil on strut suspension you don't really need a spring compressor to take them apart. Use an impact wrench to take the nut off the top and it'll pop apart. To re-assemble just have a friend put their body weight on the upper spring perch/strut mount to compress everything while you put the nut back on the top. If you have shocks with separate coils then disregard all of that and get a spring compressor.

DFSniper
11-10-2008, 07:46 PM
i'm pretty sure its the second one because we could have gotten the coil on strut setup, but it would've cost us way more.

i found a 1-3" adjustable coil over set for $65 shipped on ebay (i dont like the extra space in the wheel well), but now the only ones they have are $275 and the cheapest anywhere online are $250.

All that work and they have to go and negate it with a single pedal cover, badges that don't match the steering wheel, and a light-up shifter.

Umm Check again there is going to be a 4th one where....

As he is released from prison, Brian O'Conner teams up with Dominic Toretto work with the feds to bring down a heroin importer by infiltrating his operation.

should be interesting. figures they'd use the GTR though... i'd rather see an evo or sti. but hey, the charger is making a comeback!

oh, guess there will be an evo in the movie, but not as the main car.

sorry should have said "fast and the furious look"....i realize they are comming out with another failure of a movie...I havent really seen a ricer around here lately and i live in a college town. There are a few sub 13sec civics around, but the exterior isnt covered in wings and stickers and body kits.

Thankfully all i see really are mustangs, camaros, some lifted trucks, and alot of the bagged minitruckin thing around here.

The fast and the furious is easly the worst series of movies ever shown. For any REAL car guy, these movies are an insult...I mean "OMGZZ intake failure....floorboard falls in from too much NAWZZZ" comon gimme a break? its a buch of pos import cars, running around with fartcans and huge wings. Of course they got to destroy the real american cars...the Montecarlo, viper, carmaro,saleen...etc.

After i watched what they did to that mustang in tokyo drift...i will never watch another fast and the furious.

I want a zenki S14 or an AE86.

DFSniper
12-10-2008, 07:03 PM
mmm, ae86 and mkIII supras are the only toyotas i'd ever own.

i couldve gotten a '95 240, but i didnt. wasnt a big fan of the body style back then, and i wanted something newer for my first car.

southernsteel
12-10-2008, 07:18 PM
I like the MKIV Supras much better lol

I'd keep the body relatively stock. The only thing I have a desire to do is slap on a front lip, add HID's and lower it. 17's will be the biggest I'd go too.

Rest of my cash would go to making it a KA-T

theres a tuned mkIII for sale at the local muffler shop. its the same shade of blue as my timmy!

I had the opportunity to build a 300 whp 240 with a fully rebuilt engine and a five speed rebuilt and swapped in for under $6K. Up to that point, I only had 1500 towards a new car and the car itself was going to be about $3600.

But then I got an $800 phone bill and there went my car money :(

DFSniper
12-10-2008, 07:51 PM
ouch, that sucks. my first car was going to be my dad's '98 f150, 31.5" traxxus tires, lift, dual glasspack exhaust, etc, because he got an 07 ram 2500, but he traded it in for my mom's focus. so he put $4500 towards a car. i ended up paying $100 :P

southernsteel
12-10-2008, 07:55 PM
I can't say too much about not paying for a first car. My grandpa gave me mine. It was his old DD and he got a new one.

Well, my graduation is coming up soon, so maybe I'll get a new car then. I've got a few choices. And I certainly wouldn't mind having a used police interceptor. Good condition ones go for about $6500 or more.

yeah, theres tons around here. i dont think you're allowed to be a used car dealership without a crown vic pc.

southernsteel
12-10-2008, 11:28 PM
there aren't so many around here. but I would love to snag one of the Jeff Co sheriffs when they let theirs loose.

A couple handfuls of them had 03 cobra motors installed plus the other mods to make it the interceptor version. They're siiiick.

theres a blue one in my neighborhood, a white one, and a kid i worked with has an older one (like off the blues brothers, but all white). almost all the taxis around here are ex PCs too.

I know they are legit in Japan. I've been there and seen them. I just think it looks tacky to have "Honda" on the exterior and "Acura" on the interior. Just like it'd be tacky for me to put STi badges on my WRX. I'm kinda missing the extra half liter, brembo brakes, 6spd, DCCD and a number of other things that make an STi what it is.

should be interesting. figures they'd use the GTR though... i'd rather see an evo or sti. but hey, the charger is making a comeback!

oh, guess there will be an evo in the movie, but not as the main car.
From what I recall the "main" car in the movie is an '08 STi, which they had to go and give the ryce treatment to and make it look farking hideous.

I also have a '77 F100 4x2 in the barn that is my dream 2 wheel drive truck... spent 9 years looking for one.

Then I have a '77 F250 4x4 that is on the other side of the state that I really want to work on & its my dream 4 wheel drive truck.

And for some reason I hold the title to like 2 more trucks & a few cars......
