The wait is finally over.. came in earlier today fresh off the plane from World Cup courtesy of lopez17, and I installed a POWER "Kodachi" roller trigger courtesy of the incubus. Just dry firing feels really nice, especially with the POWER trigger - can't wait to see what this thing does when I can shoot some paint through it!

Hopefully I'll have some internal pics and a write-up soon (but probably not Sunday.. Football)

One other thing.. man is this thing light.

looks nice, i'm still trying to get over the grip frame being connected to the LPR and HPR reg... Looks good though!

***edit*** marq grips on it?

Thanks guys! Yeah its nice and the trigger is killer.

big_daddy_d: Yeah it looks like Marq grips on it.. says Marq'd for Death

Alias2007: internal pictures and more info within the next few days - football on now :)

Gee Tee: any licensed US dealer should be able to ship to the UK for you, or you may call BLAST to find out. It was $599, cup price MSRP from the BLAST tent. I don't know if it will be less (People saying $550 from dealers)

Critical: :D

Megatron: Choice was between black, blue, silver and red -- yeah black was the best choice for me, looks like all they have is gloss colors too

jrmiller: haha! paris hilton knows her markers

lopez17
10-28-2007, 04:22 PM
Dealer price will be $550 but Bob didn't want to undercut his dealers so he had it at $599 for WC. The marker looks nice with the trigger installed (and incidentally for everyone reading at home, Incubus's Power line of triggers are incredibly smooth in this gripframe/marker).

World Cup was such a great time. I shot the Protege on Thursday and Friday and it's an amazing marker. It's got a smooth, very short stroke to it and the design work is amazing. The vice is going to be sweet too but unlike previous reports will only come with 2 eyes. 4 eyes are an aftermarket upgrade. It will have the Tadao (which I saw in Terry and Will's markers...and is also quite sweet). The Protege was incredibly fast and consistent. I swear every person shooting it was giggling like a kid at christmas.

Glad you like it buddy! I was surprised I didn't get any crap from TSA about bringing markers back from Orlando...let alone 100 pods. :P

WOW 100 pods! :D - yeah glad they didn't give you any crap either

I thought I showed that too you yesterday. That was the big cardboard box in my backseat, taking up the entire backseat.

At the counter the lady said what's in here, I said 100 paintball pods...after about 5 minutes of explaining what a pod is and how it's used, she got the drift. ;) I explained that I had paintball markers in my luggage and she tagged it and let them know as they ran it through the machine. The cool thing was that I knew the pods were roughly 30 lbs, so I had 20 more otherwise my butt was paying for having overweight luggage. My suitcase came in at 19.5lbs. The ticket people were cracking up. I recommend Airtran to any ballers that need to fly, they made it very easy.

It looks good, do you have an exact weight yet?

lopez17- why did you buy 100 pods?

lopez17
10-28-2007, 08:39 PM
I bought 100 pods for the folks back here in VA. I used to do large bulk orders with Kapp before they went under, but that was a few years ago. Most of us have pods that are breaking, wearing out, etc. and we each like to keep about 30 good ones for when friends come out, to have spares, etc.

I play regularly with a group of about 25 regulars. In that group we had a bunch of people in need of spares or just wanting to add on and rather than pay retail, I just got them cheap at Cup. Of those 100 pods, I've been paid for 35 and have another 55 allocated. That leaves 10 left. I got home 24 hours ago. I also bought a few pod bags and other similar things that went ridiculously fast.

IRStookmySpyder
10-28-2007, 09:58 PM
lopez17- Oh, OK now I get it. I thought that you bought all of them for yourself, I was like why do you need that many. That is a good idea that I wish my last team would have done instead of each of us buying our own but only like a couple at a time we should have just saved up and split the cash and amount of pods.

lopez17
10-28-2007, 10:04 PM
It's been a very convenient exercise. I'm a popular guy with on my email tonight as people are clamoring for pods and extra gear.

IRStookmySpyder
10-28-2007, 10:14 PM
lopez17- Well it is good to hear that you can help other people out like that.

lopez17
10-28-2007, 10:16 PM
That's not even the half of it. I have several hundred dollars in gear in my basement going to a couple of people. One of my co-workers had me pick up some pants, a jersey, pack and other random stuff for him...he's making out like a bandit. The nice thing about cup is the discounts on last year's gear. We got an E-Tek jersey for $20. They had JT Cleats for $15. Redz pants for $20, one of my friends got some JT pants for $25. Cup is just insane. I was telling Crankwalk yesterday that he needs to come down to Florida with us for Cup next year.

IRStookmySpyder
10-28-2007, 10:19 PM
lopez17- Wow, do they have like last years models guns there for cheap too?

lopez17
10-28-2007, 10:24 PM
I honestly wasn't paying attention since I wasn't really looking. I do know that First Call paintball did have some for sale and Bob Long had some Closers and other Marqs on sale but most of the tents are pushing the new stuff.

IRStookmySpyder
10-28-2007, 10:26 PM
Oh, OK. I was going to say maybe I have a shot at getting a good gun next year, lol.

lopez17
10-28-2007, 10:43 PM
One thing that you can do that we didn't try is that you can ask the vendors if they have old product in the back.

the incubus
10-29-2007, 01:50 AM
Heck yeah! First Call had NIB Karni's for $399.00

I know Cockers are yesterday's news but man, that's just insane. E-Blade Frames alone are still $200 and the Kaner Kits are $125 so do the math and see how crazy that price is. GEN4 Timmys I think were $499 or so, can't remember exactly. Wraiths (Not a high-end Marker) were selling for $40.00 and anyone who needs a nice backup or ANY Backup for that matter... That's not a bad way to go.

They had a bunch more for crazy prices as well but I can't remember them all.

First Call also had a crazy raffle 3 times per day and we were there (Lopez, McGyver & Myself) and Lopez won a nice NXe Skull 3+2 pack and missed out on a few other things and McGyver didn't wanna get Tazered to win a FREE Mini. What a girl! LOL :P

Good times with great new (certainly, now, life-long) friends!
One of the best Cups that I can remember.

IRStookmySpyder
10-29-2007, 07:33 AM
lopez17- I wish I could go down to one, but I don't have anyone else to go with seeing that I'm only turning 16 next year.

the incubus- Those are some good deals. If you bought one of those karni's and sold it for parts you could easily make your money back and profit.

lopez17
10-29-2007, 09:06 AM
Good call with the Karni's, I had forgotten about them. The JT cleats were a steal too, if only I needed or could wear the hi-top style. I want to say that BLAST had the Gen4's for $450 but $499 could be right. I can't remember, I was too in awe of the Marq's and Protege's.

Megatron
10-29-2007, 11:27 AM
Get tazered and win a free mini? Some shocking deals going on at the cup!!!

IRStookmySpyder
10-29-2007, 06:10 PM
I don't think that I would have done the get tazered for a Mini either. Minis are nice guns, but I don't think I would have liked the tazering very much.

Critical
10-29-2007, 06:23 PM
I'd do it. Of course, I'll do just about anything.

big_daddy_d
10-29-2007, 06:29 PM
getting tazered isn't half that bad, it's just the initial shock. Still can't believe a company would do that though...

IRStookmySpyder
10-29-2007, 07:08 PM
They probably wanted to see how bad people wanted there gun.

big_daddy_d
10-29-2007, 07:26 PM
still pretty bizarre, I got tazered once with dog tags on and it burnt the crap out of my chest...

lopez17
10-29-2007, 08:04 PM
Or they were joking...no one really took them up on it.

IRStookmySpyder
10-29-2007, 08:23 PM
lol, I am pretty sure they were joking, because couldn't you like really hurt someone with the tazers? Maybe if you would have told them you will take them up on it they would have just given it to you. Or maybe they would just laugh and give you a shirt or something, lol.

big_daddy_d
10-29-2007, 09:38 PM
who knows, cause i know folks with pacemakers and stuff can really get f'ed up being tazered like that. They would have to have everyone participating sign releases stating that if they fell to the ground and hit their head or something they wouldn't sue.

IRStookmySpyder
10-29-2007, 10:30 PM
Ya, so I guess they could do it, but I honestly think it was just to see how much fans really wanted their gun, or just to see how stupid the people really are.

big_daddy_d
10-29-2007, 10:41 PM
lol true

IRStookmySpyder
10-29-2007, 10:46 PM
Ya, because they are minis which don't cost that much to buy brand new to begin with and then people are going to go and let the people tazer them just for one of them, maybe for a couple of them, but just for one I don't think it is worth doing.

big_daddy_d
10-29-2007, 11:18 PM
-i'd do it though if I was there lol.

lopez17
10-29-2007, 11:39 PM
Except for the fact that they did have a hand held tazer there that they snapped on for a second or two...so while it may have been a joke, it was a realistic one. :)

big_daddy_d
10-30-2007, 01:27 AM
i bought one back a couple of years ago for my wife, them things pack a punch... we know from experience get some dumb military guys together and add beer and look what happens someone ends up zapped. lol

IRStookmySpyder
10-30-2007, 07:29 AM
big_daddy_d- lol. My brother had one a couple of years ago, but I think he sold it or something

Hay guys just got back form cup.... Man that was a great time !!! I shoot the new gun and was about to buy it when the tech guy showed me the Vice.....
Look at the protege and think of it like an alias Marq mix, I saw a schematic of the vice after BS ing with the tech for about ten minuets. I tried to snap a pic of it but the guy was very adimate about me not leaking the pic because in good faith let me see it. Any guys who visited Bob's tent saw the chubby dude with glasses, he had a few pic's of the vice.
and Like I said is the protege looks like an alias then the vice with it's 3D milling looked more like an infamous design with the milling and lines. I told the dude I was holding out for it, and said it would be releases in two weeks. I'll have it shortly and I will post pic's and a review, going with red of course..... lol

The Vice pic you saw was done up by Incubus and dropped off (I'm assuming it was the display version with the stiff backing) on Friday. It's a nice rendering and should look amazing when it's done and in it's milled form. After shooting the Protege, I'll be getting a Vice. No doubt in my mind.

KeenDean- Lmao. I like how you said kinder to your eyes.

Ha ha...

Well it's true. I'm not going to totally slate the protégé because I haven’t even held it never mind shoot it. So I can only comment on the aesthetics.

Look at all the other marker manufacturers who released there new toy's at the cup. For starters there was the DM8, the Ego8, and the MacDev Droid. All look fantastic with there 3-D milling and improved ergonomics and weight reduction. And then look at the protégé.

I think Bob Long has taken a step back with the protégé. I know he has released a marker that is at an affordable price for players who will undoubtedly be buying a face mower and is as light as a feather, but I personally think it looks awful. Compare it to his marq line of his markers. They look fantastic with the sleek 3-D milling and incorporate some “new to the industry” features. I’m pinning my hopes on the vice being a lot more “style over function”. And as reported will be a lot like the protégé, but looking quite similar to the marq.

IRStookmySpyder

That's fact. I believe they were getting about 1900-2000ish out of the marker they were shooting at Cup. The Protege has a VERY solid internal design and the Vice will be for the folks that want the milling. After seeing the 08 Ego's and DM's that are nearly identical aesthetically to their 07 counterparts the Vice and Protege are a breath of fresh air.

Megatron

Incredibly good. They're selling Vice's on preorder for $699...I know two people who have bought them.

lopez17- Oh, why are they selling them for so cheap?

lopez17

Because they can. MAP is $550, but it doesn't mean they can't sell lower. Their cost is probably $425-450, so they're still making a profit.

Call them or PM. They can't advertise lower than MAP, which is why you need to call/PM.

Ah man, very sorry to all who were waiting - been swamped at work, end of the month deliverables coming due, plus Thanksgiving activities haven' allowed me much time to take care of PB stuff. I'll still write something short up when I get a chance.

crankwalk- no rush man, I was just making sure that I didn't miss it a couple pages back or something. I am sure that most of us have been swamped with work lately since it is getting closer to Christmas and everything. Just post up a review when ever you get some time, thanks.

I am embarrassed to say I never posted a review and at this time the Protege is in pieces as I've been trying to size up spare o-rings and screws to make rebuild kits for this marker

http://www.intimidatorowners.com/forums/files/images/protege-parts.jpg

With the unveiling of the VICE, the Protege has come down in price on the Used market, you should be able to find something nice for fairly cheap vs. the original MSRP - so you might be able to get it sooner than mid year? ;)

If anyone else has any personal Protege reviews please post up. I will try to get a review up as soon as I can get the marker back together :D

I know Lopez bought a VICE - maybe he has some insight into the Gen5s

I know this might sound like blasphamy, but not a whole lot to upgrade is there?

Oh first post by the way.

I know this might sound like blasphamy, but not a whole lot to upgrade is there?

Oh first post by the way.

Are you supprized, look at all the other companies...what is there to upgrade on a ego8, dm8, pm8, or even the marq...most companies are releasing guns with upgrades standard...and at worst they could /use/ 1 or 2 things that would actually change anything.

And for the protoge you can get the vice bolt (pillow bolt) and the 4 eye system...and a new board if you really want to...

Many players need to realize that stock parts does not equal bad parts...usually.

To tell you the truth, I have a protege and there are some upgrades needed. The eyes are nice if you want to run around the woods shooting 30+ BPS but really it's not needed.

The board can be upgraded but in general the stock one has just about everything that you could want on it. It's just a pain having to flip switches inside the grip just to adjust something.

One nice upgrade is the feedneck, the stock one is pretty tall, I got a low pro version for a marq that turned out to fit well. Also the barrel that the protege comes with is terrible, the BL assassin = worthless.

I am in the process of ordering an upgraded trigger (one of the CF ones that have been reviewed in depth on this site). The bolt isn't needed unless you are shooting really brittle paint or are in a colder climate. I have the stock in FL and shoot evil with no breaks.

There are a few other upgrades that I would love to see come out, one is magnetic ball detents. The ones that are in there use a spring and so far I have crushed 2 of them after cleaning the eyes off.

I just saw that there are new bolt pins out for the Protege, supposedly help with air efficiency but I will be picking one up soon to find out for sure. Basically they are just lighter.

That is all the upgrades that I have found while looking around online. In my personal opinion the only upgrades that are needed would be feedneck and barrel. Other than that everything else is just personal preference.
