Hey guys,
First of all I would like to apologize if I offend anyone in this tight community forum. I'm not even sure if posting this is right and I just should keep quiet about it, however because I noticed how close the group in here and I am consider to be one of you guys, so I feel obliged to tell you.
Yes, as the title said, I've decided to sell My ND timmy even though it felt really hard to do it. The main reason I have to sell my timmy is because I need the cash to help me to buy.... an PE Ego 08 (Ok, please wait until I'm done before you guys start to flame me.)
The reason I need to buy the Ego 08 is because it is one of the requirement for me to play for an organized tournament team for next year, and the team itself is sponsored and actually a distributor for PE in South East Asia (I won't say the name of the team for confidentiality, plus most of you won't know or won't care anyway.) You see, in Asia there is no Professional Paintball Team. Even when you get sponsored by a paintball company (Dye, Proto, Smart Parts, or PE) you still need to pay some amount of the gear that you are going to use.
One thing for sure is that I am still impressed with Timmy as a damn good gun! And I am hoping that within middle of next year, I can have a little bit of extra money so I can buy a Protege or Vice for My personal pleasures. Too bad there is no Bob Long sponsored team in South East Asia...
I will check up the forum from time-to-time though, and I hope not many of you flame me when I post something. For sure I won't start a troll or similar kinds of post cause that's just not what I am.
Thanks for your understanding guys.
Cheers

One thing that I almost forget to mention, the team name that is on My sig is not the team that I get sponsored for.
Team Java Genies is based in Indonesia, and Java Genies is self funded by the players (ie; we pay for everything for tourneys, including flight tickets and gears.) That's why there are many types of markers in this team because every players like different markers. We have teammate who use Shockers, Dm's, timmies (me was one of them :D ) even supped-upped Ion. However, this team usually one play one or two tourney per year. The other team that I will play for is playing about 4 to 5 tourneys per year.

ain't got to justify it to us bro... hopefully the asian PB tourney scene takes off in the near future and you get better sponsorships than what you have now...

I agree with big_daddy_d I hope that the tournament scene starts to take off over there so that you guys don't have to pay as much to play in tournaments. Another thing, why don't you just buy a 07 Ego, I heard that it is almost identical to the 08 (Could be wrong, but that is what I heard)?

i heard the same thing irs, and i think they are going for like $800 or $900 now...
not a bad price for a very good gun....by the way, i'd trade my 05 alias for an
08 ego anyday.....but i'm waiting for the vice, way cheaper than an 08 ego, and from what i read it will outperform anything on the field;)

Megatron- It is a good thing that someone else heard it and it wasn't just me. But ya I would trade my 2k2 and Ion for an 08 Ego any day. But like you also said the Vice is supposed to be able to out perform anything on the field, plus it gets a crap load of shots per fill.

Thanks for the kind reply. The SouthEast Asian tournament scene is getting bigger every year. This end of year "World Cup Asia 07" which will be held in Kuala Lumpur will be the biggest yet.
About the Ego7, I was thinking about it, but after listening to friends' suggestions and thinking it through, I decided to buy Ego8 because the future resale value will be higher than Ego7, plus the difference right now is not really that big, since I got special offer for Ego8. Funny thing is if I want Ego7 instead, I have to pay retail price.

thaiboxer9- If you got a good deal on a Ego8 that is close to the price or better then the price of a Ego7 then I would take it for the same reason you said, it will have better resale value when you go to sell it later on. And that thing where you have to buy a Ego7 at retail price is kind of funny, I think they are just doing that so that you buy the Ego8 instead.

It is kind of funny. I guess the team really want to emphasize on the team players to use all the Eclipse newest gear..... Oh, crap! That means I have to use the Eclipse 08 pant and it doesn't look as nice as the 07....

Whoever said paintball was a money pit?!?!?!?;)

thaiboxer9- Ya, it may be part of the sponsorship they have with Eclipse. And for the looks of the pants, I don't think that the looks would be the main thing I would be concerned about, it would be comfort and durability.
Megatron- I strongly agree with you. I always say how I will try not to dump as much money in, but it is very hard not to, you need better and better equipment to make sure you are keeping up with performance like the other teams out there.

I was just joking about the pant :D but you are right. As long as its comfy and do its job, that's all I need. (it does look ugly tho' :( )
I have to admit though, PE really did a good job copying and improving the Timmy (yes, all of us can agree its a "timmy" right? :D Bob said it in many articles and PE does not say anything back cause its true.) I've shot My friend's Ego7 and it really is a great marker. If you guys ok with it, I'll write a small review about it when I get My hands on it early December. I'll be picking this up right before the WCA07.

thaiboxer9- I think that a review would be good.

How did PE get to make a gun so similar to a Timmy then? I'm really not familiar with the way Egos operate, but wouldn't there be crazy law suites if the design was so similar? Just wondering.
Sounds sweet though, I never shot an Ego but I held an 07 and it was really small.

BloodLustAC- I have shot a 06 Ego before and it felt really light, and shot great IMO, but I am not sure if the designs are so similar or not. I didn't think that they were really similar because of the same reason, but I could be wrong.

I have shot an Ego 07 and an 08 and I think they shoot great and are really light guns.... but in the same respect I have seen MORE people Bend or Break EGO's then I can shake a stick at. The guns are light but they are not that tough. If you play Snake or front... heheheh an ego will get you there, just make sure you don't land on your gun......

Hello,
Sorry for not being able to reply this post sooner, I promised that I will did a simple & short review of My Ego8. I didn't get it in December as I wanted to cause they were out of Blue color at that time. I got this on early February and didn't have a chance to try it until late Feb.
So, here it is:

Now, I don’t think I need to do a technical review because I'm not that experienced and I think most of you already read about it in many magazines. So, I'm just gonna put on My personal thoughts.
One thing for sure, for me the marker looks very good. PE did a good job in making this marker look stunning. Even though you are not an Ego fan, I'm sure it would make you take a good look just because of the milling and finishing.
The weight of the marker got to be the most noticeable trait. Check this out:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/thaiboxer9/Ego8blue3.jpg
As you can see, the marker including PE Inline-reg, OOPS, Shaft II barrel & 9-Volt batter only weight 913 grams (2.012 lbs!!) This by far is the lightest marker I’ve ever held (I’ve never held a Mini, so I don’t know about it.) It also doesn’t feel as long as I thought, even though after putting the Crossfire tank I can feel that the weight of the marker shifting toward the back, but not so much to be a hassle. I’m planning to add Sly barrel, a Guerrilla Myth tank-reg, Torque loader, and 68cu STAKO tank, which are considered to be the lightest gears of each of their respective kinds.
During the chrono test, My marker gave a difference of +/- 5fps which were not bad considering the marker has not been “broken” yet. Most people on the web said that it takes about 10,000 shots (with paint) for the Ego8 to be “broken.” I did see some of the shots went a bit higher or lower in trajectory, but accuracy still pretty good (took 4 guys during a 7-men game last week.) This marker does make noise! But since I was used to a Timmy, it doesn’t bother me at all. I choose the Micro-Switch setting for My trigger instead of the OPTO, since I’m used to with the Timmy’s trigger (which is the best set-up for me.) and it really help me rips in NPPL mode. The trigger is also not “wobbly” which is a big plus.
One thing that kinda bother me though is the short age of the standard ball detents. I probably spent about 3 boxes of paint and already I had to change both ball detents, even though I already put oil on the o-ring of the bolt and the rammer. I think buying the Killa Magnetic detents will be a very good investment (same thing with Timmy.)
One more positive thing about this is of course the efficiency in the air department. Just like a Timmy, this is not a gas hog and for a back player like me, it’s a welcome trait, especially in our field in Jakarta, Indonesia where we don’t have 4500psi compressed air. We only have +/-3000psi from Scuba tanks (and we use lots of them!)
Overall, I’m very satisfied with this marker. I just sold My Dynasty Shocker last month, and while I was thinking of buying a spool valve marker as a backup, I just realized that its probably not such a good idea since I play back and I need marker with good efficiency. So, at the moment I am looking at the new Protégé as a future back-up marker. Hopefully I can save up quick enough to buy one before end of the year. Wish me luck guys!
If you have any other question regarding the marker, please do not hesitate to ask and I will try my best to answer it.
Cheers.
