army combatives training. My partner locked in a guillotine choke and me being the stubborn fool I am refused to tap and tried to posture out of it, so he starts locking it in tighter, his arms weren't in the right place so crushed my throat instead of just cutting off the carotid arteries. Went to the ER with trouble swallowing because of pain. Ended up having a scope shoved through my nose down into my throat for them to check out the vocal cords and stuff... All's well now but what a day...

Ha ha, Sorry guy's but I've been on three vacations to the states hiking and camping at various national parks and me and my brother were always in agreement. YOUR beer sucks.

Many a night we sat around our little campfire drinking the local brew and meeting up with friendly fellow campers. But somehow we never managed to get into the same drunken states as our guests.

You really should try a a good old traditional pub crawl in the UK. Serious alcohol abuse followed by a total sense of amnesia. I've had whole weekends just disappear.

This is so lame, but thought you should all be in on it.

We had to have some photo's taken for our companys internal internet pages. Basically every department had to submit details of their employees. Each person had to write about themselves, the job responsibilites and of course had to have their picture taken. So just for laughs, here's a picture of me looking like a right tool.

Ha ha, Sorry guy's but I've been on three vacations to the states hiking and camping at various national parks and me and my brother were always in agreement. YOUR beer sucks.haha!! some of our beer is pretty good - Sam Adams, Dogfish Head, and other smaller microbrews. But I do enjoy a good Tetley's or Boddington's - draft is much better but hard to find, although the pint cans with the widget inside isn't bad - much more easily found here. Fursty Ferret was one of my favorites when I visited the UK - never seen it here though.

http://www.hall-woodhouse.co.uk/images/beer_headers/i_fursty.jpg

and I was also introduced to other European non UK brews like Carlsberg, Carling, Stella, Kronenbourg - I tend to buy them at restaurants here when I see them on the beer list now, over the traditional "import" beers.

Beer = Good

Ahhhhhh Stella Artois, or as we call it here "wife beater". It does rock the old grey matter. So you like traditional hand pulled ales, wow. I take my hat off to you sir, as even I'm not mad enough to take on such brews.

I don't know why you claim Sam Adams is good. The last time me and my bro were there we drank through a slab of the stuff, to no effect.

One last hilarious thing I found when I was there. You get ID'd every where you go. I picked up a six pack in a store and was asked for ID. At the time I was 33! Now I know I still turn heads when the ladies look at me when I'm out on the town, but I certainly didn't look 21 at the time! It just gave me an extra excuse to flirt with the female cashiers.:p

crankwalk
08-13-2007, 11:56 AM
"wife beater"! hadn't heard of that for beer.. this type of white tank top is what we call "wife beater" over here

http://myke.komar.org/Images/40night/6.jpg

And I think we might be mistaking "good" for "strong" - Sam Adams is good (taste wise) vs. some other more common brews such as, i don't know.. Milwaukee's Best? (aka BEAST).

Dogfish Head, the microbrewer that I mentioned earlier - makes a "120 Minute IPA" , which is 20% ABV

;)

As for ID'ing here in the states - yes, I have seen signs around that say "if you look under 35 we ID" or something like that.

When I visited Vegas, you could spot the British a mile away. Besides wearing their favourite soccer team jerseys (it's like a tribe thing), looking lobster-fied by the searing heat, but because when ever they went to the bar to buy drinks, they would produce their pass-ports as proof of age. So funny:D

Over hear the drink limit is 18, and it was hilarious to see students on vacation hitting the town looking for a good bar to get slaughtered in and denied entry because your drink age limit is I believe 21. hee hee. How sad they looked.

Most of the good beer in the states is found in the local Microbreweries. I generally despise most every beer found in the supermarket after drinking German beer when I was younger. The brewmasters at the local places do a better job controlling the fermentation process and finding a balance between too much hops, rice, barley, etc. and ending up with something resembling warm ****.

It generally does, however this pertains to Canadian Beer bought in Canada. The flavor and the overall quality of the beer, while better than most domestic American beer, is still lacking compared to European beers. Molson XXX is a good example of a solid kick me in the butt Canadian Beer that we used to get in Ontario but could only bring a sixer back across the border. I grew up near the Canadian border and we used to drink lots of Canadian beer when I was in my early 20's. It was a shock, upon moving to DC, that we started getting charged higher "import" prices for beer that we always took for granted. :) About the only US beer I'll drink anymore is Yuengling.
