View Full Version : New to Timmies, question about my GZ frame

I just got myself a GZ Timmy for $150, and it came with a small leak, after taking it apart and lubing it up with some Hater Sauce, it doesn't leak anymore. The marker cycles great and shoots nicely, if a bit slow because of the board maybe.
Anyways, on to my question. The frame that is on it is an original GZ frame, and it feels AWFUL! Man, the trigger guard is way too small for my fingers, so I'm wanting to swap it out for one of the new frames with a bigger trigger guard, like I have seen many people do. Is there anything that I need to do in particular for swapping the frames? Or will I be able to take the guts from my frame and just drop them into a new frame. And which frame would you guys recommend?

i use a assassins frame on my gz. i have also upgraded all of the electronics to alias style.
here is the frame

i highly recommend this one. has built in hose guard and is the lightest frame made.

yeah i put an alias frame on mine and it was kind of a pain in the *** to get everything to fit, so try the assassins frame. but as far as internals go, all the stock stuff will swap right over no problem. thats the nice thing about timmies is that they can usually swap internals with little or no modifications.

Alright. Also, will my trigger from my GZ frame swap over too? Or will I need to buy a new trigger?
Most timmy frames feel about the same, if you absolutly hate the stock frame, a timmy may not be right for you.
If the only thing that bothers you is the small trigger guard, get an empire style one, they are much bigger.
EDIT:
I think you need a gen 4 trigger with a gen 4 frame (2k5.)

i have used many different kinds of triggers on my assassians frame(2k2,alias,ect.) im pretty sure that you can use your gz trigger. if not many people sell them for cheap in the b/s/t section.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't say that I hate the feel of the trigger frame, the frame feels fine, but there is nowhere near enough room in the guard for my fingers. And I don't think that the guard on the GZ frame has the removable aspect that some of the newer ones do.
I should have mentioned (not sure why I didn't) that the trigger that is on my marker right now is a CP trigger. Not sure what kind, but the guy I bought it from just said it was a CP trigger.

Your trigger should be able to go right over into a 2K5 frame ... depending. The 2K5 frames are a direct drop on to your GZ...this includes Empire, Alias, Critical, 2K5 and Assassin's frames. Gen4 frames are different and aren't sold as aftermarket parts. Of these frames, the Assassin's may require some creative placement of hoses due to the compressed rear area in the frame. They are quite nice though as I recently put one on my TX Storm.
Depending on which CP trigger you have, some of the 2K5 frames have a hose guard to prevent them from rubbing on the triggers. If you have an older CP you would have to remove the hose guard (which I don't recommend) or dremel your trigger to get it to fit. If you find your trigger won't fit, PM me.
The .45 frames on the GZ's are highly outdated and for the cost of a used 2K5 frame you'd be well served to upgrade. One other thing to consider is whether or not you intend to use your current electronics in there or upgrade to 2K5 wiring/boards. (Which is what I recommend). If so, make sure you get the eye harness, membrane pad and power harness up front. Used 2K5 boards can be found for relatively cheap prices and you can always sell off your 12 and 14 point harnesses and 2K2 style board to offset costs.

Jeeze Pez, you're just a mod everywhere aren't you?
Thanks, that was very helpful.
I will likely be upgrading the board and electronics as well. My policy about electronics is pretty simple. I hate ramping, and I refuse to use it in game. I have used it just to blow through old paint, but who hasn't :P As long as the marker will shoot every time I hit the trigger then I'm happy, but the current WAS board isn't doing that. So if I were to upgrade my electronics, I would have to buy an entire new set of electronics? Will my noid still be ok to use with the new electronics, because I know that is always kind of expensive.

The noid is fine with whichever board you go with. The 127 not only has ramping code but better semi code as well. The only thing you'd have to upgrade by going with a 2K5 board is the eye harness ($10), Power Harness ($10) and membrane pad ($15-20). Often you can find these in combination on some sites. Crankwalk sells some of them.

lopez is right. changing over to 2k5 wiring was one the best things that i did when 2k5ing my z. i have found that crankwalk has the best prices on timmy maintenance parts.
