i have this 2005, was going to build a alias but thought what the hell, do it up since i like blue gats

what i need to know is to change to a alias style front block, i can either drill and tap or just tap to hold the front block

what size tap without drilling?

To swap over to an Alias front block, you will need the block it self. Drill out the body to 5/16 something. I did my wife's Texas Storm but cant remember how many threads per inch it has. Then went out & bought a new screw for $.33.

pretty sure its 10/32

so you'd need a 10/23 tap and a 10/32 grub screw (make sure you can get a grub screw with the same pitch threads as your tap as most grub screws only come in a coarser thread)

10-32 is the same as the frame to body screws. The front block is closer or the same as 2k2 sleeve screws if I remember right. I would go take pictures but Ive already taken over 100 tonight & it to late to strip my wife's gun down.

It honestly doesn't matter what tap you decide to use as long as it's in the right ballpark. I've seen them with the correct size (what ever that is, I don't feel like tearing apart either of my guns) seen it as the ram sleeve screw threading and I've seen it with some off the wall (metric maybe) threads.

As long as you use the same screw and tap you're golden.

(Btw, 10-32 is too small.)

yeah 10/32 is the screw size to attach to the old style front block

im just going to get a chart and then tap for that size of hole and get the grub screw,

just going to set up the drill press for tapping perfectly straight

No need to use a drill press to tap the hole. The hole is already straight so the tap should tap the threads straight no issue. You could try a 1/4-28 or 1/4-20(I'd use the 1/4-20) that may fit the hole pretty good w/o drilling.

If you're set up to use a drill press or mill there's no harm doing it, it decreases the chance of starting the threads at an angle. If you're experienced at tapping freehand it's not a big deal but I prefer matching the tool to the task.

i should have no problem tapping, have done steel only in the drill press, but it had a reverse, the one at home dont, so i will just use the press to start the alignment nice

I don't trust a machine to tap a hole for me, only set up the alignment.
