View Full Version : Can Someone Identify This?

So someone owed me a favor and paid me off with this marker. I shoot a protege right now so I really don't have any use for it but I figure if I get it shooting I can use it as my backup or something...

Anyway, they said that it was an '05 Lasoya Timi. I think that it's an '04 alias but I really don't know that much about the older guns Bob made.

It came with a steel tank and a MacDev 2 piece barrel that I actually shoot on my Protege. It is shown here with an Ion regulator and some really crappy tubing and fittings. I don't know what the kid did with this thing so I ripped out the plumbing fittings and put on all new banjos and macroline

I also replaced the gauge with a smaller one because I can't stand the look of the big one. There are a couple of other upgrades (board, bolt, etc.) but all in all the marker needs an overhaul

OK so the main reason that I'm posting this isn't just so I can ID the marker. It isn't shooting at all right now. I have no idea what the deal is and I need to get some background on the gun before I get my tech to rip it apart.

Anything will help!

Cheers

Hello and welcome! That is a 2k2 style Lasoya with 2k5 gripframe and regulator from a Smart Parts Ion. Depending on what the previous owner did with the wiring in the grip, it may or may not be 2k5'd. That particular frame allowed for the reuse of the 2k2 wiring and board. More than likely if it has a flip/slide lever on the back of the frame to turn it on, its the original 2k2 wiring. If it has a three button membrane pad on the back then its 2k5'd (meaning it has an Alias style board, battery harness, eye splitter, etc).

Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it

So it has the three button membrane on the back of the grip and an infamous board in it. I'm not sure who made the infamous board but the directions were included (thankfully).

He said that he bought it on ebay with a tank and a few other extras for like $500 but he owed me $200 so I took the gun off his hands.

Should I be looking for the 2k5 alias directions for pulling it apart and figuring out what is wrong or should I be working off the 2k2?

Here is a picture of the entire set up that he bought on ebay, I personally think he got ripped off because the gun doesn't shoot and it was sent with these bootleg fittings and tubing on it. What do you think? What about getting it to replace the $200, did I get ripped off?

No problem, glad to help.

No you didn't get ripped off, the entire setup is worth $200 even with the gun not shooting. The Infamous board is made by Tadao Technologies. Sounds like you have 2k5'd internals in the grip, so you can look at the Alias manual for the grip but basically it is a 2k2 marker with a new grip frame slapped on it, so you will need to refer to the 2k2 manual for o-rings/rebuild instructions since it has the 2k2 body with the 2k2 style bolt and eye covers, likely 2k2 ram sleeve and poppet/cupseal combo, definitely has a 2k2 front block and 2k2 Lasoya LPR. And refer to the Smart Parts Ion manual for your high pressure reg maintenance.

Right on thanks a bunch, I guess that if I get it working it can be my backup although I've yet to have a problem with the Protege!

Only problem with it is that the sand at the field I play at is killing my bolt! I have to clean it in between games

and regulator from a Smart Parts Ion.

If you want my honest opinion (and even if you didn't here it is:P) Go back to eBay and buy that baby an offical Bob Long Torpedo Reg. Here's a couple I've been watching to replace the reg on my Angel (Stacked shim Regs are a PAIN) but your Timmy deserves it more than my Angel.

I actually put a shocktech inline regulator on it that I had on my old ION. Is the Bob Long regulator really that much better?

I guess I can take my reg off my protege and try it out or something...

Yeah for me it is, to maintain you only have to take off the bottom of the reg, no futzing around with air hozes to clean and lube. It's SIMPLE inside even if you take it apart and scramble the guts you can put it back together no problem, try that with a stacked washer reg.

Now I've only been an Ion owner Since oooh I'd say 2pm Saturday where I bought a used one from a friend out at the field and I have yet to take the Ion apart but I'll bet a Bob Long - <fill in the blank> is much better than the Smart Parts <fill in the blank>

Shocktechs are good regs, the same as CP on the inside which are also good. Some people claim that their Torpedos work even better than their CP regs, but I usually hear the opposite, so I would keep the Shocktech on there.

Your protege reg is not a Torpedo like the older ones, I'm not sure what it is but I've heard good things (just not a basis to test out how the Torpedo would run).

So I've been working on rebuilding it now with a buddy of mine, we have everything finally working with it.

Something weird is going on with the board now (at least we both think that it's the board). When you pull the trigger there is a delay before it fires.

I've tried to adjust the board but it seems to have no effect on the firing of it. Any suggestions?

Is the delay present when dry firing or does it happen with a ball loaded?

It's a delay either way

This WOULD be normal behavior if your board is set to "delay". From the Tadao Infamous manual

Eye Mode – This setting selects the eye mode. The default is 1, which is delayed. In delayed mode the eyes will watch for a ball up to ½ second after the trigger is pulled. After ½ second the marker will fire whether or not a ball is in the breech. If set to 2, the eye mode is forced. In forced mode the marker will not fire unless a
ball is present in the breech or a force shot is utilized. The user can fire a force shot by holding down the trigger for ½ second.

So really all that I need to do is turn my eyes to force mode

Yes, I'd suggest force mode.. its the best mode to avoid chopping paint

Let me guess, about a half second delay? The board is reading an "Eye Malfunction" which may or may not be the eyes, see the current manual for a description.

You can find a complete description at http://tadaotechnologies.com. While you're there look in the product section for your manual, verify you are looking at the correct manual. Tadao has three versions of software and offers free upgrades at events.

BTW, I believe Will, the owner of Tadao, is the maker of the board in your Protege, and just released the Yakuza series for the Protege, Marq, Vice. Includes the OLED display and other features.

make sure and check your batteries. Guns like to do weird things if they are low on juice.
I saw a ion the other day low on batteries start to ramp for no reason when the board was set on semi. The thing was just going crazy, thought it was a short. We just changed the battery and it worked fine.
