Hey guys,

I just found out about your forum via Spyder.tv and I love the page!!! I am REALLY interested in building a Spyder MR2 Spimmy. I am a public school teacher and don't have $1k for the amazing M-Tac.

I have read Vikes page about the conversion but a member on the spyder forums suggested to utilize a 2k5 instead of a 2k2. Is this possible? Is the conversion much different?

Also just to let you know, I am looking at getting most of all of the parts new instead of destroying a preexisting timmy. That concept just bugs me.... a working intimidator is a terrible thing to waste. Any one have suggestions??? I am all ears, and coachable

If you buy all new parts, you could creep close to that $1K price tag you're trying to avoid, instead buy used parts, from the B/S/T on here and other forums.

No the use of 2K5 parts won't be that much different. Where you drill the hole in the body for the 2K5 front block will be in a different spot than using the 2K2 front block. Read up on some of the 2K5 Timmy conversions and this should give you an idea in what to expect to be different in your Spimmy project.

First of all thanx for the quick reply.

What models of timmy's did they make the big switch from being pretty spyder compatible to not compatible like they are now?

I appreciate the suggestion of using used parts. I was definitely going to utilize used parts for the build, I just hate the thought of destroying a timmy to upgrade my marker.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that up to gen4 could be used, though the gen4 ballanced poppet design seems to be finiky. Some people like it, some people don't.

Gen 1 to 3 are all interchangeable as far as most dimensions go, such as ram sleeve OD, Front block fitment, etc.

Gen5 is a big change with no front block, different electronics and a bunch of other changes.

gen4 rams are shorter.

jeff, look up Critical's MR1 Spimmy (mil-spim) project on SOC. for a milsim spimmy you have 2 options:

1) chop up the front of the body and replace it with a timmy front block

2) use a bottomline HPR and LPR (this will require some modding, the LPR will need to be attached to the gauge port of the HPR).

either way, you'll have to redrill at least 1 screw hole for the frame to body since (i believe) the MR2 has the screw holes closer together than a standard spyder/timmy frame. a gen4 frame MAY fit, but you would have to compare measurements.

then, just do the standard spimmy modifications and you're good to go.

if you need to compare measurements, i may be able to help you out. i have 3 timmies and tons of spyder parts laying around. we'll figure something out.

good to see a familiar face... I know this is going to sound REALLY stupid but what is SOC... I looked it and couldn't find it

the gen 4 ramsleve is way to short to be used in your everyday spyder body without major modification.

ill end up taking a azodin body and cut one up for a timmy body using a gen4 setup.

The other major issue you're going to run into is eye placement, unless you find a way to go with a bounce-beam setup. As I think the MR2 Feedneck is mounted on a 45 degree angle with a large footprint, correct me if I'm wrong. Your other alternative is getting an MR2 Body that is equipped for eyes.

It can be done, it's just going to be "interesting", and by interesting I mean a pain in the ***. Good luck anotha SOC brotha. :P
