i know ppl have said it dosent add that much performence, but i had a extra ram sleeve and the qev's are pretty cheep, so i thought why not give it a try, if it doesnt work i can always swich back. i only put the qev on the front because i didnt want to do any milling on the body, and the return air hose is pretty short as it is. so here it is, the timmy qev mod:

first i drilled and tapped the front hose barb hole for the 6-32 qev threads. i angled it back a little for clearence, and to be shur the front ram oring would still be sealed in the foward position.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o118/pbn_bucket/sales/000_2714.jpg
then i filed a relief for the back of the qev to clear with the angled threads

there is enough room to screw in the qev were the frame has the notch in the side for the noid.

after the locktite has dried for 24 hrs i slid the ram sleeve into place and locked it in with the set screw. (this only works with regular orings, not the cup orings)

its a close fit with the eye wires, but it does close up without pinching.

i let my buddy use it for a few games this weekend and it seemed to work fine. im planing to take it out this sat and put it through some tests my self and see if it added much performence

Very cool. I almost think this needs to be/also be in the "Articles" section

Nice work. I'm sure there are smaller QEVs available if it does become a problem for the wires.

Smallest QEVs I've ever seen are the Eclipse ones for Cockers, don't know how they compare to Ego QEVs though.

if you'd like, once i make shur everything is 100% i can post a how to thread in there.

i think those are smaller but i went with the ego's becuz the threaded part is pretty long and i didnt want to take a chance on only having one or two threads holding it. 2k6 eyes would be another way to save space but they only work on alias or later bodies and my AIM is 2k2.

if its not raining saturday ill try to take one.

If you have a 2k5(or similiar) frame on your AIM with 2k5 electronics 2k6 eyes will work.

As Tucan has said 2k6 eyes will work with any body as long as the frame/board is a 2k5.

they will work as in function, but they are to short to make it from the board all the way to the eye holes in my body. i found this out the hard way last time i got new eyes and had to trade em to a guy with a alias for his seprate eyes and y-harness.

Ask crankwalk to make you longer eyes. :)

i didnt think of that. it would work, ive done it to a ego that some dude severed the eyes on.
actually i could do it with the eyes i have now and the y-harness, just cut out the plug-ins and solder a extra inch of wire in http://imgs.pbnation.com/smilies/idea.gif

They work fine as long as the eye channels are't vertical. They've worked in every 2k5'd gun I've owned except my Species and Dragon.

a clippard qev might work for the back, they have ones the are more of a L shape then a box like the eclipse ones

A banjo style QEV would work the best.

Are there other banjo QEVs than the Smart Parts QEV?

I dont remember. I did some hunting for something in M3 threading but it was an epic fail mission. I did have the idea to bump the front block & sleeve ports to M5 or 10-32. I would have to find a noid with either of those threads first so I can run all the same threading. I want to say I did find a noid that would work but i would have to dig up the file i pasted links into.

changing the sleeve to 10-32 is rellativly easy, and you wouldnt need to change the barbs on the noid or front block. the hose regular timmy hose fits the qev barbs just fine.

you angled it so no wires would be in the way of it? and if you were to put one in the back, you wouldnt angle that one correct?

Timmyfreek

no i angled it so it would clear the body and not affect the front ram oring.

update. i tested it out today and it seems the qevs dont seal to good with the low presure im used to running (45-50psi). 75-80 worked ok and i was able to drop the dwell to 8ms. but then my lpr went south and i used the rest of my air fixing that. so far its inconclusive if this is realy a good thing or not. im planing on getting some more air in teh next day or 2 and burning a few pods.

- Wow this gave me some lovely ideas since i've been trying to lower the dwell on my 2k2 (spimmy) and i'm conveniently not afraid to go to work on milling the nonsense out of my rodeo body.

- I don't know the exact size dimensions, but maybe there's a chance that some of the other brands of qevs on airsoldier.com could be smaller than the Eclipse one.

PS: "sure" is definitely spelled wrong, man you have got to touch that up for the record.

Cocker Eclipse QEVs are the smallest and I think the Ego QEVs are next, the rest are huge.

I've used these on a couple of cockers. I think they are from later Ego's - possibly 08/09 models. They have swivel banjo type fitting with o-rings, making them much easier to install. Blue annodised part of body is much smaller than regular QEV, with just a little longer overall length with barb extension. Picture shows a regular Eclipse cocker QEV for comparison. Got mine from Belsales in the UK http://www.belsales.co.uk/pa.htm#qev

I also have ION 360 & Clippard QEV's here somewhere, but having a job hunting them down in my spares. If I do find them I'll update post. Let me know if you need exact details, measurements etc..
