Well, all our timmies come stock with this big ungainly gauge and I was wondering if anybody has ever replaced his gauge with a small one, like those made by CP - or Bob Long. Does it change anything in terms of performance or reliability ? Would it be difficult to do ? Thanks

i have the new small bob long gauge and there is no difference in performance and as for difficulty in changing you just need a good wrench and some elbow grease

Yes its no problem to replace with a smaller, I use a little teflon tape around the threads and an adjustable wrench

as to not scratch the outer casing

I agree with Spider. I prefer the larger gauge. When I wrap my mitts around the front reg and lpr block my thumb hugs the gauge just right.

The only thing I don't like about the larger ashcroft gauges used, is the fact that the scale goes from 0-300psi. This is too large a range, where 0-160 would suffice.

Thing is I can't find anywhere that will stock them, and ship to the UK. I found one company called McMaster-Carr and emailed them. (I found a thread posted on PbNation, where a user had purchased some gauges from there). They emailed me back, and politely informed me that they do not ship to the UK. Bummer!

Anyone fancy ordering me some gauges and sending them to me via USPS?:) I'll cover all fees...

The McMaster gauges are even larger than the stock Ashcroft gauges by about 1/4". I had picked up a couple about a year ago and when I installed one, it looked gigantor on my front block :p

If you want specific brands you can order some directly from CP or from pbwarehouse.net, they both ship internationaly.
I've also just seen some with a very good price in Crankwalk's thread in BST

I really like the 0-160 small gauges Bob started putting on the Gen4's. It's the perfect size and range to get a good measurement. One of the issues with guages that are much smaller is that it's hard to get good readings. With the new one's it's not so much of an issue.
