I was thinking about all the lines of intimidators and I can't help but remember how underwhelmed I was when gen 4 was released. Stupid built in rail, wierd looks (in my opinion, some love it), the balance valve problematic. I just felt that the gen 4 was a step if not backwards definetly sideways. The price wasnt radically differnt ( I think they started out around 1 grand) from the previous generation.

But with the 5th gen I was really really excited, everything sounded like the kind of gun I wanted to own and a improvement over everything all around. Most important is that the price change was dramatic 549 for a protege is astounding. While I really do not like the protege milling the vice really floats my boat and at 749 the upgrades are well worth the price not to mention the excelent milling.

So what do you folks think? Any die hard gen 4 fans care to defend your silly machines?

I'm just saying Gen 1 < Gen 2 < Gen 4 < Gen 3 < Gen 5 is how I See it.

Oh and while im hating on gen 4's

The ripper 3 looks like it was a baby ripper that was aborted before birth. Okay thats a bit harsh... but really guys... is makes me queasy to look at it.

I don't know, I really like my Ripper 3, efficiency is astounding, kick is practically none-existent, surprisingly light for its size (w/o barrels it's 1 oz lighter than my Angel 1), and the milling is I guess something you either love or hate. I've let guys that shoot Protege's, Ego's (w/zik kits) and DM's shoot my Ripper and all of them are amazed, so I must have got lucky and scored one of the few decent Gen 4's out there.

i'm not sure if i completely agree with you here... i think that the pressure balanced ram sleeve threw off a lot of people but i have not had any problems with my 06 and it shoots like a dream... it has very little kick and goes crazy fast! my efficiency is through the roof! 9 pods on less than 2500 psi... that right there is amazing!
but it all goes down to personal preference!

Yea but honestly what Gen 3 owners out there have the pressure balance valve upgrade for their timies? I mean it doesnt seem like an upgrade to me if hardly anyone is willing to use it over the Gen 3 valve system.

agreed... but it did make things smaller on the timmy line which is where everything is going... i mean look at the pe line... it started with cockers and now look at the ego 8 crazy small... i have almost had all gens of timmies and i honestly like the size of the 06 but the hardest thing to deal with is to explain to new 06 owners not to dick with the ram sleeve cause if they do it won't work right. also i will give you that maintenance on and pre-gen4 timmy is a lot easier than the gen4's... i have the usage of a socket wrench... to be honest i dont use my gen4 as much as my vice now but that's cause my vice has NO KICK where the 06 had very little... but to each their own i guess...

i dunno about any of the other gen timmies to be honest but my gz is a CHAMP! i can beat the crap out of that thing and it still works no matter what.

I think classic<gen2<gen3<gen4<gen5 - as it was meant to be.
The only issue with gen4 is maintenance. if you know how to take care of it and set it up it is awesome.

Never had a problem with mine...

Most of my experience with Timmies is gen two and three. I used to hear all sorts of things and issues how these guns are high maintenance, ect. but I found quite the opposite. Aside from a few O-ring swaps these guns do great!!! Just keep them clean and they look and shoot great !!! I have 2 teammates that shoot gen 4 infamous guns and I do maintenance on all three of our set ups.
Aside from a few swap outs for O-rings the only think I had to change on a gun was a set of eyes that snapped off. You can beat the heck out of these gun I love them!! I also like all the different milling options.....
better then the ego's where you have the option to just swap out colors only....

I just see it as the gen 4 guns werent bad but I see them as a side step instead of an upgrade over gen 3. There just werent enough improvements or even better looks to warant myself ever perchasing a gen 4 timmy when I can get a gen 3 timmy.

Useless how so? I was just interested in hearing some opinions from Gen 4 users as I am a big fan of gen 2/3/5 and wanted to hear some about gen 4.

well, i am new to the timmy owners family, but i have been around them and shot lots of them, but my new 06 infamous shoots better than anything i have shot, no kick, 55psi on the lpr, as b-nizzle has said, the pressure balance as long as you dont mess with it, will be fine, and the biggest improvement that that made was to lower the kick and lpr pressure, and as far as the gen 3 pressure balance, why fix it if it aint broke? the gen 3 popit works fine, but i do like the reduced lpr pressure, etc, as far as the looks go, it is all personal preference, i have heard many people say that the vice milling is ugly as ****, but personally, i must give bob some major props, they look great! im not necessarily defending them, because to each his own, but just giving you input as you asked...

I shoot gen 3s over gen 4s because they feel better. Gen 4s are too small for my hands.

really enjoyed this thread. I have a 05 alias and always wondered about the gen 4 comparison... good to get some info on it as I haven't had the chance to shoot one.

i have never owned a gen 4, but from the way i look at it, it seems bob just tried to make them smaller and better gas efficiant. i personally love the gen3 and the different milling on the gen2 and 1. I don't "dislike" any timmy, except for the new gen5 (im going to get persecuted for saying this) i dont like how the vice or protege look that much, i like the body, but i absolutely hate how he took away the alias/clamshell style frame. its just a regular 45 frame, just like an ego or some other guns. one thing i liked so much about the other gen frames was that they were so set apart from others and had an excellent feel to them. but saying all that, it is just imho

I've never shot a Gen4 but I can say that while I loved my Alias, Gen3's really are big guns. Not necessarily heavy or tall, but LONG.. from the tip of the LPR (even without a volly) to the ram cap, they were pretty lengthy, so the Gen4's trump them at least in that one aspect.

I don't like the Gen5 Body types so far but it's really impressive how Timmys have shrunken down so much over the years. I mean where acn you go from the Vice? Other than releasing new body styles, there's not much room to expand. I mean Bob could try to shave off weight every time and milk the line of all its worth like the DM/PM's, but the cool thing about Timmys is that it's never been that way.

Each gen significantly changed the gun, whereas something like the Ego has stayed pretty much the same over the years (minus milling and some upgrades).

I actually really like my gen 4, it's the right size for me and the confort level is right where it should be for me.

So would I call it 'meh?'...no, but it's personal opinion, just like any other marker discussion.

i held a protege and I agree with pbfrenzy about the grip. I love my clamshell and how it kinda just fits in my hand. The protege grip felt a bit awkward being so straight 45. I'd love to actually shoot some paint through it though. the small size of it was really nice although I don't mind the length of my alias. I'm used to it and since my only other experience with markers consists of my first cocker and an 02 timmy I guess I wouldn't know any better.
