Well, I have the opprotunity to buy a 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad cab. I didn't look closely at it, so I don't know all the options or details. I know it needs a tranny and a rad. I can pick it up cheap. I can also get the parts needed pretty cheap.
The other option is to finish my 1985 GMC Jimmy, that I need to assemble an engine for, build some parts (headers, intake, intercooler, etc.) Also finish some braking upgrades I have started.
One way or another I need to end up with a truck, my Malibu is just not cutting it.
The benefits of the Dakota, is it's newer, if that's really a benefit, it is 4 door and 4 seater, it will be all stock, so the insurance company won't have any reason to cancell me.
The cons, would be I would have to put all the money out up front, and it's a Dodge. I would need bi-yearly emmisions tests, for as long as I owned it.
The Benefits to finishing the Jimmy, is that I would finish that project, I already own it, and it would be pretty cool. It always got attention when it was together before. Never needs another emissions test again.
The cons would be that it's 25 years old currently, which means that it has issues that a 25 year old vehicle would have, just due to age. If the insurance company decides that they don't like the modifications I make, I will be spending more on insurance.
Either way the vehcile I end up with, will be my daily driver.
