modding a ram is really really really easy...
First off if you have a 2K2 project you need to determine how much slack your ram/Bolt assembly has. With the gun degassed you need to push the bolt all the way forward and then look down your feed tube. here you should see an eyeful of bolt.. now slide it back to the rear of the gun.
If your bolt is sitting in the correct position you should only see barely a sliver of the front of your bolt. I mean mabey the width of a few fingernails. Here is a picture of how my Alias is set up but you need to have your bolt set up the same. ....

Notice you can just see a small part of the bolt. This insures with your force feed hopper, the best ball stack because your gun and hopper are not crunching balls to get them into the breach. This to is the whole purpose of having that back ram cap at an adjustable position.
However on my ... Errr my brothers GZ his bolt sat fine and one was not needed, go figure.....
Ask anyone with a stock Timmy this is one of 3 upgrades (1, new barrel Anything but the stock one 2, magnetic detents Killa's are the bomb 3, adjustable ram cap) to make your gun throw ROPES !!!

If you mean physically modding the ram you don't have to do anything except remove the mushroom shaped ram bumper.
If you are going by what lurker says for the eigenram, to cut the mushroom off and leave the stem in the back of the ram, that is just his recommendation for his own ram which is much lighter than stock. It may not necessarily be a benefit for a stock weight 2k2 ram.
Slimpkins976 has provided a great walkthrough in the post above for positioning the bolt in the right place via the adjustability of a ram cap such as the Hybrid

Aye like Crankwalk stated my walk threw is for a adjustable ram cap like the one you had in the picture. I myself run an Eigenram with out a bumper on the ram, but the ram cap is exactly the same as the one you have in said picture above( a hybrid one) so thats why I presented the post in this fashion. the ram cap it's self has the rubber grommet er bumper on it and a Allen key is used to adjust the back of the ram cap into the desired position. post here If there are any more issues ....
