Hi guys I'm some what of a Timmy noob, but I fell in love with my 2K5 Timmy.. and have owned and traded out a few guns but for speed ball just love the feel and look of the Alias.
My new toy is a 2006 alias with a virtue board stock eyes, hybrid ram cap and I was lucky enough to get a Tecna Katana trigger, slapped a hybrid push on off, and a Dye hyper 2 reg on the front block. I know the basics of how to strip th gun down and clean it, as well as relube the gun, but I was wondering how does one become a certified tech?
I want to be able to problem shoot and help others. I have been doing alot of reading lately, and have already reread every post on this site, and I am hungry for more info!!! so if you guys have any hints or tips send them my way. I just re-regestered, so you should be seeing more posts from me shortly.

First of all, welcome back. Slowly but surely word is getting out that IOG is up and running again, and so users are re-regiistering.
As to the question, "how does one become a timmy tech"? Well, I have no idea. Hopeully some one else will pick up on this and help you out. I heard of other manufacturers holding training sessions for their markers, where you could gradtute with a certificate that proved you were competent enough to fix their products. However, I never heard if Bob Long ran such courses. A lot of tech heads just picked up info from other owners or by working their way through the manual and working problems out for them selves.
I have question for you though. How do you run 4c eyes through a virtue board in your 2006 timmy?

For some companies, it is a matter of standing under their tent. After watching my bottle reg being "tech'ed" three times at the vendor tent, I finally realized that they just lubed everything and cleaned nothing. They never cleaned the seat off and that is why it still leaked. At least they told me which were their least favorite parts.
As a tech though, if you want to work on a bunch of guns, you need to attend events. Rec ball fields are pretty disorganized unless you work with the owner, and then you will probably end up tech'ing the rentals that get used as shovels.
The best way to learn about a gun is to build one from scratch part by part. For example, I built a spimmy, yes part by part. In turn I learned how the reg's worked, the flow of air through the hose and air ways and where everything went. At the end of it, I could dis-assemble and re-assembly a 2k2 timmy with my eyes closed.
As far as being a tech, start by helping at your local field, if the owner notices that you know what you are doing and have a high success rate, he/she may offer you some sort of job working there. From there you can go to classes/sessions held by different certified techs to earn a certificate stating that you are certified to work on ______ brand of equipment. It's also a good idea to take airsmith courses and become certified in that area.
Most of teching and trouble shooting is simply commen sense. Determin the source of the problem and what can be done to fix it, then act upon those 2 things. Be sure to keep in mind ALL possibilitys from broken seals to faulty parts to dead batteries to board settings. The first thing to check is air pressure both at your regs/gages and in your tank.
That's all the help I can give at this point in time because that is as far as I have gotten myself (I'm not certified yet but I have done some training.)

A good way is to get in with the local distruibtor. They usually receive flyers about upcoming tech events and such. And normally they are not free, but you a couple hundred (depending on where and what its for) you normally get certification on a couple of markers and the occasional hopper. NPS used to be real good about offering them, but now that Kee took over im not sure. Im sure they will be just as good....maybe a lil higher priced:confused:

Im retarded sorry I must of been on glue in that 1st post, .....my first( real speed gun) was an 05 timmy alias, it had a stock frenzy board and has the one piece eyes gen 4( tried to do some tinkering and got ruff with the eyes and had to replace them and the battery harness to, I had not learned the proper Finesse to tech the gun yet). It also had the screw on dedents with the spring and ball bearings gangster... red and black it was a sexy marker.
The new guy I have is an 06 alias same body style but with different ball dedents (not a timmy >.<), because of the virtue board. it has the Tecna Katana with a nice snappy pull. Dye hyper 2 reg, and feeds to a Hybrid on off with the huge brass button. It started to leak so I slapped on a spare CP ASA with an on/off .
Hybrid is spoused to send me some O-rings so I will tell you guys how cool there technical support works out. I play tomorrow, Sunday is my favorite day of the week cause me and the boys hit the woods !! cant wait Thanks everyone for all the Support and answers to the question !!

That's what the "edit" button is there for. It's located in the bottom right hand corner of your post. You could edit your first post as to not confuse any newcomers to this thread.

I've noticed some people on PBM mainly with a "Factory Certified Timmy Tech" title so I guess that Bob Long must be organizing classes once in a while. I'm not about to make it my job but it's also something I'd really like to attend !

At national events, Bob has had tech classes for interested parties. I'm not sure he's done any since the split with National. I attended one with my buddy 4thDegree (from PBR and PBN) in 2005 at IAO. It was a great session. We heard quite a bit about intimidators and the history behind the markers from Terry and Joe. That being said, there's more you can do.
I actually think that certification classes aren't likely to show you all the finer points you need. If you want to be considered an Intimidator Tech, work on Intimidators. Lots of them. Then work on more. When you can start answering some of the real niche questions that arise, you can consider yourself a tech. I think I probably know more than 99% of Intimidator owners out there but there's still guys like Terry, Joe, Bjorn, Rob (Incubus), Zim, Lurker and a few others that know more than I do. Additionally most of the people that have Certified Tech in their sig on PBN are BLAST Factory Techs. When you send a marker in for warranty work, these are the guys that take care of it. I've dealt primarily with Joe in the last year and believe me, when it comes to fixing these markers, the BLAST techs are gods.
Bottom line, just keep practicing, reading, learning and tinkering. You'll get good.
