View Full Version : Gen4 valve purging....very stiff valve action normal???

I just put together my gen4 ram houssing with the popit, the popit return spring, the rocket cap,and the ram and ram cap. After installing the assembly in the gun i tried testing the action of the popit by pushing the bolt forward like i was to purge it and it does not even move and i put alot of pressure or what seemed to be.When i do this to my ego9,its a bit stiff but easily moves.I applied double the pressure in my gen4 and the popit wont even move.
I took the ram sleeve out of the gun and stuck a chop stick through where the ram goes and pushed forward on the popit with that and the popit did move forward then sprung back after reliving the pressure on the popit stem, but it is a very stiff spring. Is this normal?? i dont see how the ram is going to be able to hit hard enough to properly push this popit forward????
Is an oring supposed to be applied on the threaded part where the rocket cap screws on,so that the rocket cap does not screw down all the way, therefore increasing the popit return spring pressure??? one of my gen4 ram sleeves came with a oring on this threaded part where the rocket cap screws on.And another one of my gen4 ram sleeves did not

No one knows the answer to this?? people with a gen4? is it normal for the popit to be very stiff to move forward?? when i tried to manually push the popit forward. It was very tight and stiff to do so...is this normal? is something wrong??it seems like the ram would really have to slam into this popit with power to pop it open

Stupid thought but is your ram in backwards?

No...so the popit should move forward easily?? the popit return spring seems to be much stiffer than say an ego...or alias spring...

Gen4's have a VERY stiff valve spring, what you are describing is perfectly normal. In the gen4 design the only force that closes the valve is the spring opposed to other poppet valve markers where the spring AND the pressure behind the valve close it. With that in mind remember that the valve spring has to be able to hold the valve shut while the front chamber of the ram sleeve is pressurized.

No o-ring is supposed to go on the threaded section where the rocket cap attaches.
No one knows the answer to this??
There's only a handful of gen4 owners/savvy individuals on this site and not everyone gets online everyday (most of us have jobs.)
Stupid thought but is your ram in backwards?
It's impossible to put the ram in backwards on a gen4 without knowing it. The ram cap won't screw on and you can't get the bolt pin into the slot on the ram. A good question none the less.

Nothing in Megatron's post even hinted that the valve should open easily.

Common sense says that since i made this post asking about the stiff action of the gen4 popit in my gun,and the first reply was asking if i installed the ram backwards. That leads me to think that the motive to his answer indicated that what i was describing is abnormal. And that the very stiff action i was talking about was related to his answer:)
Basically since the first answer was indicating i had trouble.Since he asked,is the ram backwards.I figured that the popit should open easy.

No i have not put air in it.I am still building it but i am testing things for operation and this popit just seems to have a very stiff action than what im used to.Since this is a balanced valve and i know that its supposed to run at half the operating pressure than most normal popit platforms. Its just hard to belive that such gentle operating pressure can cause the ram to slam open such a stiff popit setup
Never assume, take everything for face value and look no deeper than the surface.

Well what am i supposed to ask when i asked if the valve is supposed to open that stiff. And the first answer is (IS THE RAM IN BACKWARDS) is that not safe to assume that the person means, that it is not supposed to open that stiff? that i have some trouble?all i asked was if he meant the popit is not supposed to be that stiff,if i was told that it was normal than i would not have asked if it was not.
And i did miss your answer,i have now read it and learned something new.So thanks alot....i have not seen replying like that so i missed it the first time.As far as people having jobs i understand that, but i made some other posts today and they were answerd right away and since this was not and its saturday.I thought maybe my trouble was not ordinary. So i was desprite for an answer.

I have never owned/worked on a gen 4.... my thought process was it is possible to install your ram backwards on a gen3, so maybe it is on a gen4....but now I am enlightened, thanks god.
I assumed (yes I know) that it shouldn't require THAT much force to open the valve, and if the op couldn't do it using the bolt and ram but could with a chopstick, then maybe the ram-bolt orientation was wrong

lol..my god everyone is going nuts.Megatron? you answerd me,and i appreciate it.I am not in any way saying you are the devil for asking if the ram was backwards..lol...i thought it was safe to assume that the question indicated abnormality, and anyone else would have. Not that it was wrong what you asked me,you were trying to help and you have.I guess i just jumped to conclusions,it was wrong of me to and i am sorry.
My god help us all:rolleyes:

You wait for someone to give a definitive answer
is that not safe to assume that the person means, that it is not supposed to open that stiff?
It is never safe to assume.

You are more than welcome.

It's a fairly common way to reply when addressing multiple topics and/or issues within a single post.

Not everyone is qualified to answer every question. Some questions take longer to get answered because few people have the answer and you have to wait for one of them to get on and read your post. This appears to have been one of those questions.

EDIT:
I'm hoping that I'm not coming off as irritated or worked up. I'm just trying to answer questions and give advice with simple answers to avoid confusion.

Does anyone know where i can find the manual for my board? when i started it up it said 1.5...is this the stock board program when the gun was made? will the gen4 manual tell me how to use this? or is this a different update? i have been looking all day for directions on this version and all i found was user settings. Is this board uncapped?
And no you are not coming off like your worked up.Everyone has different ways of saying things, and some people do assume someone is confirming trouble. when they are answering the op's question, with a question regarding improper assembly in this case.

Refer to the gen4 manual for any 1.5 coded Frenzy board. (Empire 1.5 and Infamous 1.5)
1.5 was the current code when the gen4's were the current model.
They work much the same as every other (pre Marq/gen5/gen6) Frenzy board. The 1.5 has an adjustable, optional cap from 10-25(20?) bps if I remember correctly.

Ok so then the instructions for the board in the gen4 manual are for my version? cool...i think it says something like all modes are capped at 15bps...and then on the left side of the page it says cap bps..and it says that you can adjust the rate of fire from 10-18bps..but the cap mode must be activated for this?? so what does this mean? are all the modes capped at 15bps? im sorry i know there is a manual but sometimes i need people to explain things to me.

Yeah i thought that is what you said once i looked at my post title highlited and found that you replied:D i however dont understand what it means when it said
C all modes capped at 15bps......then it says if the capped mode is selected than i can set the cap between 10-18bps...i understand that but i dont understand when it says C all modes capped at 15bps.Then it says pspNcap and that means that the gun will ramp with the cap off....im a bit confused..so this board can go uncapped on all modes?

Did you read page 10?
Explains what all of the NpspNcap, PSPNcap etc. means
If you set the board correctly, yes it can be uncapped on all modes...

Yes page 9 and 10 is what im reading,it says all modes are capped at 15bps,then it says other stuff that through me off

Is capped at 15, if thats what you have your BPS cap at.
You could take the time and just play around with the settings and modes, that way you get an idea of whatever thing does first hand with out the explanation from someone on the internet/manual..
Yeah I'd just play with the board to get a feel for it. I'll be on later tonight to try and answer any questions you have.
