Ok - crankwalk is hopefully going to supply me with the harnesses, screws, o-rings and detents.

A couple of people made suggestions for the board but I'm getting a cheap Virtue board for £25 ($50) from the UK so i opted for that one as this is a project and i just want to get it back up and running at the moment!

headhunter_paintball is hopefully going to sort me out with the Atomix jewels.

So it looks like i'm more or less sorted. I have a couple of questions though...

1. The back end of the ram is pointed and there is no bumper on the ram cap. Is that a problem? From the "Rip it open and clean it" thread, the third pic (http://www.intimidatorowners.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2&postcount=1) makes me think not but I would like to check. I had a 2k2 a while back and that did have a bumper. There is a space in the stock rammer cap for a bumper to be seated but if i fit one the bolt pretty much blocks off the breach so i take it the Alias doesn't need a bumper? (If anyone has time i'd love a brief explanation of how it doesn't need one if that is the case!)

2. It also came with a spare CP adjustable ram cap. Can you use the pointy ended ram with one of these? I have visions of the point smacking into the adjustable portion of the CP ram cap and breaking something!

3. I've looked on the Virtue website and it looks like there is only and has only ever been one board for the Alias platform Timmy - is that correct as i want to make sure i have downloaded the right manual.

4. Does anyone have a hi-res image of the A-Bomb Timmy with the custom lazer work showing a skyline scene? I'm sure you know the one i mean!

5. I need to get the front frame screw hole helicoiled. Not sure who to send it to in the UK so that's the first question. Second question is what size do i need to get fitted? Are there any potential issues i need to bear in mind if i get a non-paintball workshop to do it? Is it worth getting the rear one done at the same time?

Thanks all! Everyone's being really helpful so far. Let me know if i'm getting annoying. ;)

Please see my answers in red below:

Alias rams are more or less bumperless. You don't have the mushroom shaped bumper as in the 2k2 rams but if you look closely in the pic you referenced, you will see a small white o-ring.. this is what acts as a bumper in the Alias rams. Also the stock ram cap should have hard rubber or plastic on the end, so the ram doesn't exactly hit aluminum. Inspect your stock ram cap and let me know if I've got that wrong.

2. It also came with a spare CP adjustable ram cap. Can you use the pointy ended ram with one of these? I have visions of the point smacking into the adjustable portion of the CP ram cap and breaking something!

If it looks like this, yes (this is the cap made for Alias rams):

http://store.customproducts.us/images/product/33.jpg

If it looks like this, no (this is meant for 2k2 rams with the mushroom bumper):

http://store.customproducts.us/images/product/32.jpg

3. I've looked on the Virtue website and it looks like there is only and has only ever been one board for the Alias platform Timmy - is that correct as i want to make sure i have downloaded the right manual.

As far as I've know Virtue has only had one board released for the Alias platform, unlike Tadao which has released the M3, M5, M6 code boards.

4. Does anyone have a hi-res image of the A-Bomb Timmy with the custom lazer work showing a skyline scene? I'm sure you know the one i mean!

Courtesy of Fireball Mountain (fireballmountain.com) - they did this custom laser engraving:

http://www.fireballmountain.com/fbmf/gallery/imgs/fbm7.jpg

Any machine shop should be able to helicoil it, but you may want to ask some of the UK folks on this forum who they may recommend. Unless the rear is stripped, I would leave it alone. You have to make sure that the shop who is helicoling it is extremely careful not to drill too far up and into the valve chamber, because then you'll have a problem

Thanks all! Everyone's being really helpful so far. Let me know if i'm getting annoying. ;)

no problem

Oh wow. That skyline A-Bomb is incredible. Any other pics of it floating around?

On the topic of the jewel, it'd be nice to find some Dragon jewels as well. Maybe we should have a sheet of them custom made by one of those domed decal manufacturers? (I threw this out there at PBN too)

Yeah the a-bomb with the engraving is amazing.. here's some better pics I found

Yes njbus435102 you might be right.. I thought there were other colors floating around..

Found a black-red one

As far as i know, those are the only two and FBM (i think) refused to do anymore. The blue one is London skyline and the other is a composite of different cities (again, i think) in the US.

I found a few custom domed decal places but their websites and custom order forms seemed seriously lacking. I'll do some more digging when I have the time.

Folks - the reason i asked for the pic was that i'm thinking of doing something similar on mine. Now, i don't want to do the skyline thing as it obviously bee done already... I was thinking of getting the mushroom cloud annoed, tattooed or lazered so that it had some red, orange, yellow "glow" to it and maybe make it stand out a bit more and look a bit more like an atomic explosion. Any thoughts about how this might look?

I've searched on Google for some pics and it came up with these: http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=atomic+bomb+explosion&gbv=2&ndsp=18&hl=en&safe=off&start=0&sa=N

Anyone reckon there's one there i could use? Also, what else could you do to an A-Bomb to make it stand out whilst keeping the integrity of the original design. It has the Bomb Eye Covers on it so whether you could do something with them??????

This is what it looks like at the moment:

Also, if any of those parts are not original can you post up and let me know please?

(I know the CP reg in the first one isn't, or the OOPS. What about the rest though?)

for different anno ideas, what about getting the eyes on the eye covers anno'd red and the teeth silver to make it stick out more? and i have no idea where u could do this, it just occure to me and i think it'd be pretty sick. on the body, at the top of the eye covers, have flames anno'd (or laser engraved would be easier but no color there) so it looks like the eye covers are like a rocket and a flame is coming out of the back....do u follow me at all?

Stan

Yep - i get it. Interesting idea... keep them coming

Also, if any of those parts are not original can you post up and let me know please?Looks like you've got all the original parts on there that usually with secondhand markers tend to disappear quickly - original bomb eye covers, original wavy trigger guard, along with the Alias blade trigger and skull LCD grips, BL clamp feedneck, etc

Here's a thought. If I were personally doing this project, I'd approach it from a different angle.

I would re-anodise my timmy in polished silver with the name "Enola Gay" masked on the side. The silver would be to try and make it look like the B29 bomber that dropped the first A-bomb on Hiroshima. You could still mask out/anodise the mushroom cloud to show the explosion. As for the bomb eye covers. I would have kept the black but laser engraved away most of the black to just leave some plate edges and rivet details (if you get where I’m coming from).

Nice pic of my local museum :)

There are a lot more planes in there now though.

I am working on something similar for my A-Bomb but I am putting the stuff in the SPD grips. The gun is already anno'd :)

Stan

KeenDean - like it. Will see what i can come up with.

ah the red to black one was the one i was thinking of... i knew it had a bomber in it.

it'd be cool to have one done with a b-2 on it.

you could also do the anola gay idea.. and make the different parts of the gun look like plates.. maybe with a lil rust /bullethoes/burn marks, et.. like a plane.. also you gould talk to spd about getting the woman from the side of the plane done for grips...

Virtue board arived today from a guy over here in the UK so i'm a step closer;)

When i got the gun the previous owner sent a couple of extras/spares with it. Most of these bits seem to be 2k2 spec though!!!

Do any of you recognise this board?

No real useful letters / words on this side.

This one says:

PB001 Rev B
PLOTECH 1 94V
The red dipswitches have 6 switches on the left one. 4 on the right one. They both have ONC&K TDA06 on the top.

Thanks,

grab the FCC number on the board and look it up. It will tell you exactly who made it.

Just a thought....

Before getting the stripped thread helicoiled, I would check on the implications for the anodising later on. AFAIK you can't dip alloy parts in an anodise bath with steel components (inserts, coils or broken screws) in them? Not sure exactly what occurs, but I used to work at a place that did anodising & was told it's a no-no. I think it may cause an explosive reaction that causes a lot of damage to equipment and alloy parts in the tank?

May be worth helicoiling thread after anodising, or even considering some other way of fixing it such as tig welding and re-drilling?

anyway - good luck with project Stan :)

Looks like the one with no useful writing on it may be a very old SOB (Semi Only Board) - this was a Bob Long board that came in the Classic (gen1) Timmies and some early 2k2s I believe (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

Here is a pic of the SOB

As predicted, the parts arrived from crankwalk today (Thanks!). So the board is now held in place with the screws he sent me, it is hooked up via the harnesses he sent me, it has two lovely new detents and i have a load of O-rings in case anything goes hiss when i air it up.

As i say, i hooked it all up and:

a) the Virtue board seems to work. Wasn't sure it would as it only cost me the equivalent of $40 shipped.

b) the solenoid goes click.

c) the eyes work.

So, all i need to do now is get some air in my tank and test it!

Stan

Ok - finally resurrected it as i had it firing at a tournament yesterday in the lunch break. (Not allowed to play with it as i have to use an Ego or Etek2). No leaks and everything worked as it should!

Shot a hopper full of paint and was really very consistent over the chrono and fast. Now i know it all works i need to decide whether i'm going to anno it or sell it... or hang on to it until i have more money!!!

I'm looking for a CP or Hybrid Adjustable ram cap in gloss black so if anyone has one or could point me in the direction of a store that ships to the UK i'd appreciate it.

Currently we ship to the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. We can only ship outside of these contries if payment is made with American Express and the address can be verified.
