Whats on your Workbench Thread

Had this idea some time ago & since we moved some stuff around in the house I figured it was a good time to snap a picture (since Im able to get to it again) of my workbench & start the thread.

http://jogoodman.smugmug.com/Paintball/Workbench-n-Random/i-QZkmHNV/0/L/sept282011-workbench-002-L.jpg

Currently still getting the front bedroom (now the hobby & computer room) straightened out & my gear put up. Thats why most of my tools & all the lube is on the workbench.

As far as what Im working on, my Rage. Trying to get all the parts I have on hand positioned right to figure out what I need to finish it.

I said work bench not winter plans.....

But if you want to compare, I gotta build a 20x10 chicken coop with a 20x40 penned outside. Find/buy the stuff to fence in over an acre I call a backyard. Fix a few little things on my 1ton (electrical, transmission leak, hydraulic leak & some interior nick nacks). Change transmission fluid in my '94. Go get a '75 1ton supercab. strip it, convert it to 4x4. Buy another supercab. Combine parts from those 2 plus my 3/4ton 4x4 to make one really nice truck. Restore my '90 F150 for my son. Strip down the '73 behind the barn for parts & turn the bed/frame into a trailer. strip & build the '77 F100 in the barn.

I could keep going but I think that should highlight the next year & half.

Putting the finishing touches to my EgoMag build - should have anodising done by Christmas

Also just started building a 2k5'd Lasoya Timmy from parts, plus I've always got a couple of cocker builds in the works.. usually pumps. Must have completed and sold four of these so far this year.

Got the eye covers finished on the Egomag. Forgot they needed a recess to clear the foregrip and had to trim them a bit more yesterday, but they fit really well now. Thinking of getting Egomag engraved on the sides.

Just got to sort the annodise finish out now

LOL...

You NEED to force yourself to use a Bait-Casting setup. While maybe difficult at first, once you master it maybe you can hit a specific spot like me. :D

I do have a couple Spinning Reels but they are for Salt Water and are larger and are their only for those "get the bait in the water quickly!" moments. My son uses a spinning reel ATM but once he turns 10, he's forced to use Bait-Casters for the rest of his life! LOL

Bass Fishing is where it's at!!!

ANYONE can drop a hunk of bait in Salt Water and catch anything down below, Fresh water takes time to learn and a skill to land nice size fish and Bass are notoriously more difficult to land as they age. They are seemingly clairvoyant about lures at a certain size and in some instances you have to harass them for a very long time before they give in and strike out of anger! LOL

That's how an angler finally got a 19-pounder (I believe that's about what it weighed) to hit his Jig after about 4 hours of harassing it! LOL

what rods U have?

the incubus
11-10-2011, 01:37 PM
Believe it or not, I stopped spending so much money on Rods when I bought a $14.00 7' Med/Heavy Action Shakespeare Baitcast rod more than 10 years ago. I was on my way to the Keys when I realized my wife left them in the garage. So, I had to make a stop at Walmart to pick up a couple of Rods for myself and I was blown away how that rod felt better and offered more control and feel than my 120 Diawa Rod and my $150 Abu-Garcia Rod.

I run an Shimano on one and a Quantum on the other and while they are Fresh Water Rods, I've landed 30lb Black groupers, 40lb Barracudas, 50lb Dolphin, 40lb Permit and many other large fish. the key is to use PowerPro line with Flourocarbon leaders and use Quality Circle Hooks.

Cuda are the most fun because you use a Tube Lure (a fluorescent colored tube of Rubber with a Treble hook at the end) and cast as far as you can and drag it hard on the surface of the water until you see (LITERALLY) a Torpedo skipping on the surface of the water at 30+ miles per hour until your line is ripped sideways and then it's on!!! They tire slowly at first but after 10 minutes you're happy they give your arms some much needed relief. Some however, come right to you and once they realize you're going to grab them, they fight harder than before. LOL

Oh how I used to love cutting class to go behind the Seaquarium!

SOON TO BE ANODIZED to exceed its former glory!!! (wanted Black Nickel but it's not gonna happen. :()
Empire Block and HPR Bottom will be on it. It will essentially be identical to Perfect Storm in every way other than
the bodies Bolts and feedneck but I'm debating swapping this one for the Storm's HedLok II. Not sure on it yet though.

The Alias body & frame is so pristine it will remain unchanged and the accents will be anodized in a contrasting or
complimentary color but having a tough time deciding though a light lilac or periwinkle. Possibly it's accents will be
the same color as the IRONMAN Body & Frame so it all gets the exact same color and the Ironman accents will be
a different color. Copper is a strong front runner as well for both but the plan was to have the IRONMAN Black Nickel
with copper accents but the only way to do the Black Nickel is Vapor Deposition Plating. YES... the exact same process
that produces the Aurora finish. I was fortunate enough to speak with a master plater and anodizer who was kind
enough to educate me on the correct process and why and also informed me that Colored Vapor Deposition should
not cost more than regular nickel ano since it is essentially the exact same process and that the voltage required
is simple to apply and that whomever said it was risky to do is telling tall tales as it does not harm the alloy.

The Lasoya is my latest acquisition via trades. I traded that Champaign Dragon for pbojelly's G7 Fly and then traded
that beast for this LNIB GEM straight up! I finally got me a Lasoya. Now I have the IRONMAN and only the ShockTech
eludes me. LOL

Nice collection Rob

I've got a similar colour 2K2/2K5 lasoya hybrid build in progress. Gotta agree the Alias guard on yours doesn't really work for me either. I've opted for the Empire style for mine as it's one of my favourite shapes. Does anyone know how easy it is to get hold of the oval Bob Long jewels on Alias frames? Mine are both missing and I want to replace them after I get the Lasoya re-annodised.

You need to get either a static one or 2-piece 90° fitting for the reg though so it can align perfectly in front of the Guard. That frame is such a rarity it's insane. "IF" you can score one from your "FRIEND" the incubus would GREATLY appreciate it. I would trade my whole lot of spares for it. Realistically, the only things you need to update are the Alias Ram Sleeve, Poppet & Ram Cap. LOL All else is fine as is. The Alias wiring simpler, cleaner and more sleek, but a 2k2 Frenzy board works just the same and if they're still available, 2k2 Tadao is also fantastic.

Critical Guard is the ugliest thing I've ever gazed upon. Just looks like an improperly installed Empire Guard. The Dragon Guard is sexy and Black ones are nearly impossible to find.

I agree with Alias or Empire Front Block and losing the long Volly. Also, dye your bolt Black. Rit Dye work magnificently but I like to add a touch of Indigo Blue to it so it's a rich black and not a brownish/purplish black.

Hmm, feels like the point of this thread flew out the window a bit, so here's my contribution:

I called it Project Mandarin, but someone had inadvertently gave me a great idea to call it Project Roadkill (http://www.just2pale.com/Images/Media/TwistedMetal2_Roadkill.jpg):

http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/8241/img20120107105843.jpg (http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/8241/img20120107105843.jpg)

Several goals/themes:

- reincarnate/overhaul that old spyder body (well what's left of it) as a tribute to it being my first marker purchase (was collecting dust in my toolbox for years)
- incorporate as many non-paintball related parts or junk as possible
- use paintball parts from as many different brands/origins as possible
- be a cheap-*** about almost everything
- try to utilize all of the tinker/Macgyver skills i've been practicing (polishing, thread tapping, JB weld, soldering, plexiglass work)

HPR: 250psi
LPR:125psi (i think)
Dwell: 10ms

Which yields me about +/-270fps last time it was assembled, but i'll need to sweetspot it again after some modding i did to the valve/springs.

Anyways, so the plan is to eventually send it out for Cerakoting after i put in the trigger magnets in and finish off the plexiglass grips.

I'm going to make a detailed thread for this chronologizing everything (going to be lots of pics) soon, stay tuned.

As far as the two gauges? lol ahh that's just me being over the top. Once I realized there's enough meat on a pre-2k frontblock to drill/tap a 90 degree 10-32 hole through it, I just had to try this.

Then of course, all that was left was to drill/tap a 1/8npt port on that side of the block and POW!- just screw in a gauge there to see the LPR pressure passing by before it goes to the noid.
